How Many Hits Between the Isle Be Back Artists?

On 13th and 14th May 2022, the Black Isle Showground will be the setting of a 1980s chart-topping festival, providing a weekend of entertainment with performances from ABC, Toyah, Nik Kershaw, T’Pau, and many more. The party starts on the 13th of May at 7pm with a host of tribute acts to the decade and giant eighties karaoke where a world record will be attempted. The Saturday kicks off at lunchtime through to 11pm with all the main talent, headlined by ABC. Continuing with the “Look of Love”, 5% of all ticket sales will be donated to Highland Hospice. The Hospice celebrates its 35th Birthday in 2022 and is a charity very close to the event organiser’s heart.

With some incredibly exciting entertainment lined up for the event, we took a deep dive into UK chart history and found out just how many Top 40 hits our 80s legends held between them.

How Many Top 40 Hits?

Event headliners, ABC, hold 10 Top 40 hits, spending a total of 52 weeks in the UK Top 40 charts. Of these Top 40s, the band successfully achieved three UK Top 10s. Their most famous hit Look Of Love peaked at number four in the charts.

Joining us on Saturday May 14th, 80s icons T’Pau have achieved eight Top 40 Hits, with three landing in the Top 10. The band has seen their music spend a whopping 55 weeks inside the UK Top 40 chart.

We are delighted that Toyah will be joining us at the Black Isle Showground this May. With eight UK Top 40s and three Top 10s, there is no doubt Toyah will be brining a party with her to the Highlands.

80s heartthrob Nik Kershaw is excited to visit the Highlands in May. He has eight Top 40 hits under his belt, with five of those reaching the Top 10. As an artist, Nik has spent 62 weeks in the UK Top 40 and his hit I Won’t Let The Sun Go Down (On Me) peaked at number two.

We are delighted to welcome 80s legends The Fizz to Isle Be Back on May 14th. Original Bucks Fizz members Cheryl, Mike, and Jay have spent an incredible 95 weeks in the Top 40 with 13 of their hits making the chart! The Eurovision winners will certainly be keeping us entertained.

Synth-pop band Blancmange will be taking to the stage in the Highlands in May. The band has achieved chart success with seven UK Top 40s and a total of 45 weeks spent within the chart. Of their hits, three have reached the Top 10 with 1982 tune Living On The Ceiling peaking at number seven.  

No stranger to the festival scene, Doctor & The Medics have had a colourful career in the music industry. Having spent 17 weeks in the Top 40, with two top 10s to their name, the band is sure to get the crowd dancing with their performance at Isle Be Back.

With a string of party hits, we can’t wait to welcome Black Lace to the biggest 80s event in the Highlands. Known for party tunes such as Superman and Agadoo, the Europop act has had four UK Top 40 hits, three UK Top 10s and have spent 37 weeks in the Top 40 chart.

Scottish singer, Owen Paul, has achieved chart success with 1986 hit My Favourite Waste Of Time. The song peaked at number three in the UK Top 40 and spent a total of 10 weeks in the chart.

Iconic Number 1s from our Festival Artists

British glam rock band Doctor & The Medics secured a UK number one with their iconic cover of Norman Greenbaum’s Spirit In The Sky in 1986. Since then, the song has been covered a number of times, including by Pop Idol runner-up Gareth Gates for Comic Relief in 2003. Make sure to get tickets to Isle Be Back so that you can rock out with Doctor & The Medics.

The Fizz is a British pop music group formed from three original members of Eurovision Winners Bucks Fizz. The core of the group consists of Cheryl Baker, Mike Nolan, and Jay Aston. The group achieved three UK number 1s in total, with their winning Eurovision entry Making Your Mind Up being their first and most famous. The band also reached number one with The Land Of Make Believe and My Camera Never Lies. The trio will be performing at the Black Isle Showground on May 14th 2022 and said “We are really looking forward to playing alongside our pals at the festival!”

Led by Carol Decker, T’Pau rose to the top of the charts in 1987 with China In Your Hand. The hit earned the band three BRIT award nominations in 1987. With a string of Top 40 hits, including the much-loved Heart And Soul, T’Pau will be performing in the Highlands at the Isle Be Back festival in May.

On May 13th we’ll have a range of fantastic tribute acts and DJs performing to get the weekend started, with a giant karaoke kicking off the festival. On Saturday, there will be fantastic performances from our stellar line-up: ABC, T’Pau, The Fizz, Nik Kershaw, Owen Paul, Doctor & The Medics, Toyah, Blancmange and Black Lace.
